Peptide Therapy

Precision support for healing, metabolism, and brain vitality

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act like “signal messengers” in the body. Some are naturally produced by humans (like GLP-1), and others are investigational compounds being studied for their potential roles in inflammation control, tissue repair, gut-immune signaling, and cellular communication.

At Caring for the Body, PLLC – Center for Functional Medicine, peptides are not a stand-alone service.

They are integrated into a comprehensive, personalized functional medicine plan alongside nutrition, targeted lifestyle medicine, diagnostics, and (when appropriate) prescription therapies. This is how we keep peptide therapy grounded, safe, and clinically coherent.

If you’re new to our clinic and curious about peptide therapy, the best first step is a complimentary strategy session so we can understand your goals and recommend the right next step.

If you’re an established patient, simply ask your clinician at your next visit and we will discuss whether peptides are appropriate within your treatment plan.

Why patients choose our clinic for peptide therapy

Many people find peptides online and feel hopeful, but also overwhelmed by conflicting claims. We help you cut through the noise with a physician-led approach that emphasizes:

  • Right-fit candidacy (who may benefit and who should avoid peptides)

  • Risk-aware decision-making (transparent discussion of evidence strength and uncertainties)

  • A clear clinical target (metabolic support, gut inflammation, tissue recovery, or brain vitality)

  • Objective monitoring (symptoms, biomarkers, body composition, and functional outcomes)

  • Integration, not hype (peptides support the plan, they do not replace the plan)

Important note: Some commonly discussed peptides are not FDA-approved for many marketed uses, and high-quality human evidence varies widely. Our role is to guide you with clarity, caution, and a commitment to what is safest and most evidence-informed for your situation.

Peptides we commonly discuss and integrate

Always with a plan. Always with monitoring. Always with safety at the center.

GLP-1 agonists (metabolic health and body composition)

GLP-1–based therapies are peptide-hormone medications with substantial clinical evidence for improving metabolic health and supporting weight loss when appropriate. For the right patient, they can be a powerful tool to reduce cardiometabolic risk factors that also influence long-term brain health.

How we use them:

  • Personalized dosing and coaching to support success

  • Side-effect prevention strategies and nutrition optimization

  • Strength training and protein guidance to protect lean mass

  • Long-term planning to maintain results

BPC-157 (tissue and gut repair support – investigational)

BPC-157 is widely discussed for its potential role in tissue recovery and gut lining support. Much of the scientific data is preclinical (lab/animal), and high-quality human trials are limited. That’s why we approach it thoughtfully and conservatively.

When it may be considered:

  • Tendon/ligament irritation or slow recovery (as part of a broader rehab plan)

  • Gut barrier support within a structured GI protocol

  • Inflammation modulation when there is a clear rationale and monitoring strategy

Peptide bioregulators for cognitive health and brain function (emerging science)

Some peptide bioregulators are being explored for their potential roles in cellular signaling, gene expression, neuroprotection, and healthy cognitive aging. This is a developing area, and it’s never positioned as a replacement for foundational brain-health pillars.

How we think about cognitive support:
We look at the full terrain that shapes cognition, including:

  • Vascular health and metabolic health

  • Sleep quality and circadian rhythm

  • Inflammation and immune signaling

  • Nutrient status and mitochondrial support

  • Hormone balance when relevant

  • Stress physiology and nervous system regulation

  • Neuroplasticity habits and cognitive training strategies

When peptides fit, they are one tool inside a bigger, evidence-informed plan.

Who is a good fit to explore peptide therapy

Peptides may be worth discussing if you are:

  • Working on metabolic health, weight, insulin resistance, or cardiometabolic risk

  • Navigating slow recovery, chronic inflammation, or stubborn tissue irritation

  • Addressing gut inflammation as a root cause driver of systemic symptoms

  • Focused on healthy cognitive aging and want a comprehensive brain vitality strategy

Our safety-first approach

Because the peptide space is full of aggressive marketing, we emphasize discernment and safeguards:

  • Clear discussion of benefits, limitations, and unknowns

  • Review of your medical history, medications, and contraindications

  • Attention to side effects and how to mitigate them

  • A plan for monitoring outcomes and adjusting appropriately

  • Strong preference for quality-controlled, medically supervised care

Frequently Asked Questions

Are peptides a stand-alone “program” at your clinic?

No. Peptides are integrated into your functional medicine care plan. We use them only when they align with your goals, your physiology, and your safety profile.

Are all peptides FDA-approved?

No. Some peptide therapies (like GLP-1 medications) have strong clinical evidence and FDA-approved uses. Many other peptides commonly discussed online are investigational and do not have robust human trial data for many marketed claims. We will help you understand where the science is strong and where it is still emerging.

Can peptides improve cognition or prevent dementia?

We do not promise outcomes like that. Brain health is multi-factorial. If peptides are considered for cognitive support, they are used as adjuncts, never as substitutes for the fundamentals that move the needle most: metabolic and vascular health, sleep, inflammation control, nutrient sufficiency, movement, stress resilience, and purpose-driven living.
